About Us

Elise Gainer started Ghosts, Murders, and Mayhem Walking Tours in August of 2010 after earning her New York City Sightseeing Guide License.  Originally she was going to create a ghost tour, but after studying New York history, she  discovered so many strange and wonderful stories of mayhem, she decided to broaden the subject matter.

The reputable publisher of historical books, Arcadia Publishing,  reached out to her to contribute a book to their Images of America Series.  GHOSTS AND MURDERS OF MANHATTAN is available through Arcadia, Amazon, Barnes and Noble.

Although she's had some paranormal experiences in her life, the scariest time for her happened after she left her corporate dream job as a Director of Training and moved at age 39 Into the dorms with 18 year-olds at the Boston Conservatory.  Three years later she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.F.A. in Musical Theater Performance.  She continues to perform and enjoys writing including her blog Elise’s Ghosts, Murder, and Mayhem.

Meghan Sara Karre  earned her New York City Sightseeing Guide License with honors in 2019.  The popular guide grew up in The Twilight Zone - Binghamton, NY, hometown of Rod Serling.  After a chance viewing of West Side Story in 1997, she fell in love with New York City and believed that all she needed to be happy in life was a fire escape.

Meghan holds two degrees in theatre and has starred in community and off-off Broadway productions in the past.  She has been performing tours with Ghosts, Murders and Mayhem Walking Tours since March 2011, combining her lifelong loves of mystery, storytelling, and New York City.  She is a licensed tour guide and tickled pink to tell the city's lesser known stories in the very place where they occurred.  Meghan currently resides on the "Upper Upper" West Side in a walk-up with it's very own fire escape.
